Not only telephone companies are already preparing for the arrival of 5G: the companies are plotting the future implementation of this technology to improve their services.
In the middle of the technological revolution, the arrival of 5G will end up with a huge change in our lives. The fifth generation of wireless connection will allow the evolution of the homes to a smart home , the implementation of the Internet of Things or the Mobility as a Service.
Nowadays, people lives are experiencing a change: the introduction of the technologies in their day to day has speeded up the routines and has taken over the “immediacy”. For example, shopping through only one click or with the instant update information to be able to have a call from anywhere in the world.
The 5G will end up consolidating all these facts. It is an imminent digital revolution, where the speed and the capacity of the internet will reach unimaginable levels. But, how will it be possible to make this change?
AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT
The speed of mobile connection will be faster than with 4G and will allow faster access to information, which will change the established paradigms of the communication. In other words, the speed will be 400 megabits per second, making possible the development and implementation of IoT, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality.
THE 5G WILL BE BETWEEN 10 AND 20 TIMES FASTER THAN CURRENT MOBILE CONNECTIONS.
Many of the companies that develop their devices with the highest technology are already preparing for the arrival of the 5G and, consequently, they are working on the improvement of virtual reality, robotics, 8K ultra-high definition television or video games.
FASTER WITH VERY LITTLE LATENCY
The 5G latency, a concept that refers to the time it takes transferring a data packet within the network, is expected to reduce the time actions between 1 and 2 milliseconds. In other words, the interaction between the Internet and the cloud will be almost instantaneous. In this sense, the speed of download will also be higher maintaining the quality of the elements.
A CONNECTED WORLD
With all these improvements, 5G technology offers a wider scope, since it allows thousands of services and devices to be connected in the same network. The 5G will make possible simultaneous connection between different devices making also possible the remote control of them. This will create new possibilities, greater efficiency and the reduction in the costs of many processes.
WEARABLES, AUTONOMOUS CARS OR THE AIR SYSTEM IN THE CITIES ARE SOME OF THE APPLICATIONS THAT WE WILL ENJOY WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE 5G
Nowadays, telecommunication companies are already working on some prototypes that will be used in 2020 with the arrival of the 5G technology. Last edition of Mobile World Congress celebrated in Barcelona, was introduced the first mobile phones prepared to receive this fifth generation of connection and, Vodafone Spain has recently installed 11 nodes of 5G in the city of Barcelona to check the potential of the networks of new generation.
However, some current devices will be obsolete when this new network implements. Even though, that’s not the end of the fixed telephony. Telecommunication companies have been working a lot in the optical fiber and wires of copper to improve the fixed lines and in which the 5G will be a complimentary service.
FROM FICTION TO THE REALITY
There are many projects that may seem unimaginable, as if they were taken from a science fiction movie, the 5G is going to make happen the connection between real and virtual life.
The first demonstrations of surgeries TV-assisted to real-time have already begun, where the surgeon is miles away from the real intervention. The business field will be expanded through large-scale monitoring, and automation. For Artificial Intelligence, it has been used in the Sensórica, that allows data collection of different intelligent sensors.
5G will also suppose an advance for drones. The new technology could be usedf for the rescue of people with drones thanks to the transmission of images and data in real time. In addition, the intelligence of a drone will allow unexpected connections that will enable the exchange of valuous data.
WHEN AND WHERE
Among all the projects that companies are raising and developing, telecommunications companies and mobile phone manufacturers are working hard to launch the 5G before 2020. Some countries, such as China or South Korea, are considering launching it by the end of 2019.
Therefore, this new wireless connection sets new horizons with a clear aim: connect people with all what surrounds them and promote it in sectors like mobility industries, medicine, health or homes.
Before this new technology will be implemented, some companies are already thinking in the sixth generation of connectivity (6G) and, although it is far from this implementation, studies like one from the University of Bremen indicates some tips on how will be the new wireless connections of the future.
This refers to the limitations of the 5G and the great world that would open if the 6G further enhances the transfer of data. A world that can seem now of science fiction, but that would help to develop the artificial intelligence exponentially.
THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION CALCULATES THAT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 5G WILL SUPPOSE AN INVESTMENT OF 56.000 MILLION EUROS IN 2020, WITH AN IMPACT ON THE GROWTH OF WEALTH OF 141.000 MILLION AND THE CREATION OF 2,3 MILLION EMPLOYMENTS
But there’s still much work until the day comes like finishing the application of protocols and getting a big investment to develop new infrastructures. So, 4G still uses and we should not forget that there are places where the fourth generation has not yet arrived.
Also, this jump in telecommunications requires the improvement of the regulation of the spectrum radioelectric and, also, of the big data system that will be in charge of processing and extracting all the useful information from the massive data.
